Degrees to Percent Slope Converter
Convert a slope between degrees, percent grade and a rise : run ratio — useful for ramps, driveways, roads, roofs and hiking trails.
How to use the Degrees to Percent Slope Converter
- Choose what you know: degrees, percent or a ratio.
- Enter the value.
- Read the slope in the other forms.
How it works
Percent slope = tan(angle) × 100 = rise ÷ run × 100. A 45° slope rises 1 for every 1 across — 100%, not 50%. Small angles are almost proportional (1° ≈ 1.75%), but the percentage climbs steeply near 90°. The ADA limits wheelchair ramps to 1:12 (8.33%); interstate highways are usually kept under about 6%.
