Mesh to Micron Converter
Convert screen and sieve mesh numbers to opening size in microns (µm) and millimeters, or find the mesh for a particle size.
How to use the Mesh to Micron Converter
- Choose mesh → microns or microns → mesh.
- Enter the value.
- Read the equivalent opening size.
How it works
Mesh is the number of openings per linear inch of screen; the opening size depends on wire thickness too, so standard sieve series define exact openings. Values here follow the US standard sieve series (ASTM E11): No. 200 mesh = 74 µm, No. 100 = 149 µm. Mesh sizes are used for filters, sand and powders, coffee grinding and kief screens.

Frequently asked questions
What is 200 mesh in microns?
74 µm.
What mesh is 100 microns?
About 140 mesh.
Is higher mesh finer?
Yes — more openings per inch means smaller openings.
How big is a micron?
One thousandth of a millimeter; a human hair is about 50–100 microns thick.
What mesh is fine sand?
Fine sand is about 60–200 mesh (250–74 µm).
