How it works
Sheet metal gauges are historical numbering systems in which a higher number means thinner metal. The same gauge is a different thickness for different metals: 16 gauge is 1.52 mm for standard steel, 1.61 mm for galvanized steel, 1.59 mm for stainless and 1.29 mm for aluminum. Thicknesses here follow the Manufacturers’ Standard Gauge for steel and the Brown & Sharpe gauge for aluminum.
