Equivalents are approximate. Above about 220, FEPA P-numbers rise faster than CAMI numbers for the same particle size.

Compare sandpaper grits between the US (CAMI) and European (FEPA “P”) systems, and see what each grit is for.

How to use the Sandpaper Grit Converter

  1. Choose CAMI or FEPA.
  2. Enter the grit number.
  3. Read the equivalent grit, particle size and uses.

How it works

Grit numbers describe abrasive particle size — higher numbers are finer. Coarse grits (40–80) remove material fast, medium (100–150) smooth surfaces, fine (180–240) prepare for finishing and very fine (320+) sand between coats or wet-sand. CAMI and FEPA match closely up to about 220, then diverge: CAMI 400 is about P800. Values are approximate averages.
